My family has made the 12 hour road trip to Destin, Florida every year since I was about 2 years old. There is something truly comforting about visiting the same destination every year. The sights and smells all read familiar, allowing me to truly relax and not give in to the FOMO that typically consumes me when I venture to a new city.
Destin is my safe place - my happy place. I have seen it grow up and change over the past twenty-something years that I have visited, and have watched it become more grown up and a bit more touristy. Outside of Destin, Seaside has remained one of our all-time favorite spots to day-trip during our annual visit to the Florida panhandle.
Here is an abbreviated day-trip guide to Seaside!
If you weren't already aware, Seaside is the town where they filmed "The Truman Show" with Jim Carrey years ago. The town is super picturesque, as is there adorable grocery store : Modica Market. Grab some kombucha or cold brew to go while you peruse the cute (however overpriced) boutiques.
This place is AH-dorbs. They have Turkish towels in every beachy color imaginable and they even have super trendy round towels with fringe - perfect for relaxing on the beach! I snagged an adorable grey round towel and a straw beach bag to house all my summer essentials. Raw & Juicy also has great summer reads, beautiful water bottles, and a food trailer along the main row that serves fresh juices, protein shakes, etc. Needless to say this is my favorite spot in seaside.
If you're looking for fresh seafood with an outrageously beautiful view, you've found it. Serving up fresh shrimp, oysters, rose, (basically my fav things in life) etc - the Shrimp Shack is located right on the beach and has a gorgeous white pavilion that overlooks the turquoise waters. The sea breeze keeps diners quite cool as they munch on local fare and enjoy the ambiance.
At this point in the day, you may want something nice and cold to cool you off - It's Heavenly is just the ticket. Be sure to let all your friends back home know where you are by taking a picture with the giant ice-cream cone out front. What's better than ice cream in the summertime?
Duh! Seaside beach has brilliantly white sand and perfectly clear blue waters. After you spend the afternoon biking around town, shopping, and brunching, take all the beach items you've snagged and head on down to finish the day on the beach. Be sure to stay for sunset - there's nothing more beautiful than watching the orange sun go down over the water.
There are so many more things to see and do in Seaside - but I hope you enjoyed my quick day-trip style guide! Can't wait to go back next year and try out some new fun spots!
